House of Our God
Words: Philip Doddridge
Music: Zion (Harmonia Sacra) | Harmonia Sacra, being a Compilation of Genuine Church Music, and Originally Published in 1832
1. House of our God, with cheerful anthems ring,
While all our lips and hearts His goodness sing:
With sacred joy His wondrous deeds proclaim,
Let every tongue be vocal with His Name;
The Lord is good, His mercy never ending.
His goodness in perpetual show’rs descending.

2. The heav’n of heav’ns He with his bounty fills;
Ye seraphs bright, on ever blooming hills,
His honours sound; you to whom good alone
Unmingled, ever-growing, has been known,
Thro’ your immortal life, with love increasing
Proclaim your Maker’s goodness never ceasing.

3. Thou, earth, enlighten’d by His rays divine,
Pregnant with grass and corn and oil and wine.
Crown’d with His goodness, let thy nations meet,
And lay themselves at His paternal feet;
With grateful love that lib’ral hand confessing,
Which thro’ each heart diffuseth every blessing.

4. Zion, enriched with His distinguished grace,
Bless’d with the rays of thine Immanuel’s face;
Zion, Jehovah’s portion and delight,
Grav’n on His hand, and hourly in His sight,
In sacred strains exalt that grace excelling,
Which makes thine humble hill His chosen dwelling. Amen.

5. His goodness never ends; the dawn, the shade,
Still see new beauties through new scenes display’d;
Succeeding ages bless this sure abode,
And children lean upon their fathers’ God:
The deathless soul through its immense duration,
Drinks from this source immortal consolation.

6. Burst into praise, my soul; all nature join;
Angels and men in harmony combine,
While human years are measur’d by the sun,
His goodness in perpetual showers descending,
Exalt in songs and raptures never-ending.
